Include 1848-1853 diary of C.T.H. Palmer, recording voyage around the Horn, mining in California, law practice in San Francisco, description of great fires of 1851 in San Francisco, activities of the Vigilance Committee of 1851 and various proceedings against criminals, theatrical, bookselling and banking ventures in Ophir; manuscripts of his stories and poems, 1848-1849; diary and accounts of Sherman Day, 1854, re his surveying business around San Jose, railroad matters and his election as state Senator; marriage certificate and diary of his son, Roger Sherman Day, concerning life in Folsom and his friendship with E.R. Sill; Day family genealogical material. Of note in the collection is a letter from Mark Twain to C.T.H. Palmer.
